At my Raw Challenge Bootcamp yesterday, teams were given a few simple items and a simple set of rules. Using only their provided rope, duct tape and a broomstick, they had 30 minutes to carry as many team members 150 metres as they could. They weren't allowed any direct contact with their team members and the person getting carried wasn't allowed to touch the ground for the whole 150 metres. They had already completed at least an hour of hard exercise so they were already pretty gassed, now they had to think under pressure in a competitive environment. Simple but not necessarily easy. We know that it becomes harder to exercise the more you think, in 2015 Blakely et al. found running speed decreased as cognitive load increased. I'm a massive fan of these types of games. I find that the clients that I train who dominate these challenges are the same clients who seem to stay on track with there training no matter what is happening in their lives. I believe it is this resourcefulness that enables these people to generate results no matter what is thrown at them. They don't see obstacles they see opportunities and they don't fail to take advantage of them. I really enjoy watching these skills develop in poeple in real time. Over the last year or two, we have all hit obstacles big and small. Those who have been the fastest to adapt have flourished. You may or may not have felt like one of those people. The good news is, you can become more resourceful. Look for solutions where others see problems. Be open minded and confident and always look at the glass as half full. Find creative ways to optimise things and if you need a skill you don't have, learn it. Do not wait for others to provide your success, go make your own opportunities and most of all, if at first you don't succeed, try, try and try again. #mondaymotivation
