A mindset story about elephants.

Mindset is everything!

The human mind is an incredible thing. In fact, the human brain is the most complex object that we know exists. The mind when used correctly can do some amazing things and having the right mindset is the key to unlocking the brains potential.

What is mindset? A mindset is a series of self-perceptions or beliefs people hold about themselves. These determine behaviour, outlook and mental attitude. For example, believing you are either ‘intelligent’ or ‘unintelligent’.

It is this mindset that separates elite athletes from the rest. The wealthy say that a tenacious (never say die persistence) mindset is the number one thing required to amass great wealth.

Anyone has the potential to control and reshape their mindset, it is not influenced by IQ, intelligence or any form of natural ability.

To give you an explanation of how powerful a mindset can be, I’m going to tell you one of my favourite stories, one which I covered on my personal facebook page on a live vid a few days ago.

It is the story of a man who visits his local zoo, and sees the elephants.

As the man was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a rope tied to their legs. It was obvious that the elephants could, at anytime, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. He saw a trainer nearby and asked why these beautiful, magnificent animals just stood there and made no attempt to get away.

“Well”, trainer said, “When they are very young and much smaller we use the same size rope to tie them and at that age, it’s enough to hold them, as they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. they believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.”

He was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were. Their powerful and gigantic creature has limited its present abilities by the limitations of its past.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life holding onto a belief that we cannot do something, simply because we failed at it once before? how many of us refuse to attempt something new and challenging because of our so called MINDSET?

They say what separates a master from a student is that the master has failed more times than the student has even attempted.

How is your mindset shaping your reality?
